Tour of Britain comes to Liverpool

Happy Sunday folks! A little known fact about my family: the lot of us are suckers for any kind of mass sporting event. Whether it’s a football match, the Commonwealth Games or the Tour of Britain, we like to be there front row with our cameras and diligent applause. The atmosphere is electric and there’s something about the communality of sport that makes everyone kind of happy

Recipe: Lemon Meringue Pie

I spend an inordinate amount of time imagining what I would cook if I were on Come Dine with Me. The perfect starter, the satisfying main course and of course, the drool-inducing pudding. For me pudding is the cherry on top of the cherry on top of the cake; I mean, it’s what’s going to linger on your tongue going into the night, so surely you should pull out all of the stops?

Kiehl’s Skin Rescuer

My struggles with sensitive skin have been well documented. Seriously, all I have to do is look at something aimed at ‘normal’ skin with the slightest whiff of added fragrance/preservatives and I wake up the next morning with blistered skin, swollen eyes and a cheek full of eczema. It ain’t cute. I’ve done all of the tests; modified my diet, my skincare, moderated what fabrics I put on my skin… I still have no idea how to exit this cycle of irritation. But when my skin is freaking out and I need to calm it down in a jiffy, I do have a little routine of products that soothe my skin.

My Face: A Friendly Reunion

Gotta say, naming a post ‘My Face’ probably isn’t the most imaginative or appealing of titles. But I hereby promise that upon clicking this post, you will not be faced with a high-definition of my face in all its glory. No. I think it’s a bit early in our relationship for that; I like to take things slow, you know? Last night I went to dinner with some friends in Liverpool – it was the first time I’d seen this particular group of amis since my return from France, and so I wanted to look good.

Been Shoppin’ #1

Okay, let’s address the elephant in the room first. The Pharmacie Diaries is not, and never will be, a fashion-forward blog. Sure, I like pretty dresses, pretty shoes and pretty sparkles as much as the next girl, but I am not what you would necessarily call ‘fashion-forward’. In fact, a potential suitor once described my style as ‘wannabe Victorian’ (safe to say flirting wasn’t his strong suit).

Bumble & Bumble Semisumo

Now, I don’t know about you, but the words ‘hair gel’ always bring to mind those old gloopy concoctions I used to crack out when scrunching my hair to make curls so crispy you’d almost think they were bacon. Maybe it’s because I used to use my brothers’ stuff (often Garnier) or maybe it’s because at 12 years old ‘moderation’ was just too long a word to bother with, but those greasy hair gels of old would weigh my already fine hair down like nobody’s business. Even when I had my hair cut into a pixie cut (also known as my ‘edgy’ phase) I just couldn’t get to grips with the gel; they always left my hair crispy, crunchy and unfetchingly straw like.

NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser

It’s no secret that I like my foundations to offer a comforting amount of coverage. Not smothering, don’t get me wrong, but my skin could use a bit of help in the mornings. Scarring, redness with the odd spot or patch of eczema, I need something that smoothes as it covers, doesn’t dry out my skin and still looks as natural as it is possible to when you’re essentially sporting an extra layer over your face.
